Happy Monday 🙂
This past weekend my husband and I made plans for a second time.. and they got canceled for a second time. This seems to be the new norm for us. I’ve lost count of all the times we had to cancel plans this year.. including OUR WEDDING!! But I’m learning to let go of my plans and enjoy the day ahead, no matter what it looks like — even when it’s not what I want it to look like.
I have told you these things so that My joy and delight may be in you, and that your joy may be made full and complete and overflowing.”John 15:11
God’s been teaching me a lot about finding joy in Him and NOT in my current situation. It’s most definitely easier said than done. Do you find yourself getting caught up in a bad attitude when things don’t go as planned? Yeah, me too.
Planning is something we do. We plan our day, our week, our month, etc. Plans, plans, plans. Planning helps us feel more in control… as if putting a plan in place ensures that nothing can go wrong. (WRONG!)
You can put a plan in place, follow through with that plan, and something can still go entirely wrong. I feel like God is reminding us this season that our joy in absolutely no way comes from our circumstance. Our experiences can make us happy… but it’s only for a moment. Joy is much more than what’s going on around us, or what’s not going on.
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in ALL circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
My prayer (for myself included), is for joy to invade our character, attitude, and emotions. No matter what plans get canceled today, tomorrow, or next year… our joy still remains. From this day on, joy is what gives us TRUE [meaningful] satisfaction in whose we are, rather than in our schedules.
Stay bold, friends.
